Aquael Fan Mini Plus has been serving me for over 5 years now!
Today I will talk about a wonderful and quite simple filter for the Aquael Fan Mini Plus aquarium. I will not say that this is my first filter from Aquael, but it is the first after a long break in the field of aquarism.
It all started trite. When I was born, my grandfather was already holding an aquarium in which guppies and swordtails swam. He even went to sell them on the Bird Market. Therefore, the fish lived near me since my birth. In school, I certainly had an aquarium. How to keep it, I really did not know, so the fish I have survived as they could. Then I first met with filters from Aquael. In that tiny aquarium was an Aquael Fan Micro filter. Years have passed, the aquarium is long gone, and now in 2011, it covers me again with the topic of aquariums. Again I want to have a little corner with underwater inhabitants and plants. Probably getting into these networks once, get out of them is already impossible! So in 2011, we had a new aquarium of 60 liters, in which the Aquael Fan Mini Plus filter was purchased. Then I did not know that, in principle, I miscalculated with the size, since this filter is designed for aquariums from 30 to 60 liters. Yes, 60 is the upper limit, but in aquaristics it is better to take it with a margin. Although, although it was too small for my tank, it did an excellent job maintaining the cleanliness of the tank and saturating the air with oxygen.
And now I will tell about the filter and show it closer. The filter is very small, it is very small in height – about 15 cm.
Due to the small size of the filter, you can shove into almost any aquarium, but you need to consider that, for example, in 10 liters of fish or shrimp will fly away with the flow, which he will create there and no adjustment of the flow will not help here.
The filter consists of three main parts: The filter itself, the fastenings with which it is attached to the aquarium and the removable exhaust nozzles, one of which contains a hose that goes outside. Through it the air will flow into the aquarium and aeration will take place.
All the necessary information is written directly on the body. For all the years of use, it has not worn off at all. Everything is easy to read. But a couple of times the filter overgrown with algae and I rubbed it pretty hard to get rid of them.
From the information on the case: firm-Aquael, model -FAN-mini plus, power – 4,2W, capacity – 260 liters per hour, maximum water temperature for work – 35 degrees.
And now let’s take a look at what the filter itself consists of and what it is in a disassembled form. It may seem that there are too many details!
But the devil is not so bad as he is painted. Only a couple of times having assembled and disassembled the filter, I learned how to manage them. It is understandable at some intuitive level and it is simply impossible to get lost in the assembly-disassembly. And if you look at how he understands in stages, then everything will immediately become even clearer!
So, the filter rests on the mount, from which it is easily removed by slightly pushing upwards. The mount itself consists of a stick holder and a module with suction cups. Suckers stick to the glass, and in case they for some reason come off, the filter will remain hanging on a stick and will not float away or drown.
Suckers – the main trouble of the filter. I do not know how Aquael manages to make such high-quality filters that have been working for years and save so much on suckers. My suckers began to harden after a year and stopped not only to stick, but even just to bend and bend. The feeling that they are made of plastic, not rubber!
It so happens that the aquarium has stiffeners and screeds. In aquariums up to 100 liters, of course, you can hardly see them, but if the aquarium is made of very thin glass, then they will be in it. Then just a story filter on a stick would be uncomfortable. In this case, the hook of the stick has a sliding module that would round this edge.
And now I will show what this crumb consists of and what is inside it. Here is the filter assembly, only without fastening.
To begin with, we remove the nose and the aeration hose from it. In principle, I generally use the filter without them, so it is easier for me to adjust the flow in the right direction, so that no stagnant zones form in the aquarium.
Now let’s see what is below the filter. And this is a glass. Under a glass sponge, which is held on a stick-holder. Even after 5 years, the design works, nothing falls off on its own during operation and does not fly off.
After removing the glass with the contents of the ns in the hand will remain only the "head" of the filter, which houses the motor and the entire electronics. But this small part can still be disassembled. With a stick that holds the sponge turn the cap and remove the rotor. This is the main part of the filter. He then drives the water through the filter, and its axis is magnetic, due to which it spins on the axis when it is connected to the network. But the place where the rotor is inserted – for me the most difficult thing in terms of bathing. Brush it does not crawl, so I clean it with cotton buds. Of course, there it is necessary to clean it much less often than to wash the sponge, but still sometimes it is necessary, so immediately take a note of a cotton swab.
Well, the last thing that understands the filter is the top of the "head" rotary exhaust, silver regulator of the power flow and the damper from the same adjustment. There is the least dirty there, but still sometimes you have to disassemble. In general, when I carry the filter wash I prefer to wash it completely every detail. I usually use a sponge, a toothbrush and a cotton swab.
In the aquarium, the filter looks good, although of course it would be much better if it wasn’t there at all, but if there is nowhere without it, it’s better. Now he stands in my tank of 20 liters with swirling power, without an aerator and nozzles on the exhaust.
Therefore, in this filter some advantages. Small, compact, convenient to maintain and well maintains the microclimate in the aquarium.
Of the minuses, this is of course a sucker. This is not even a minus, it is a huge marriage of a company that the company is not going to buy. (still, they on additional suckers receive more than for the filter)
And apparently from the time exactly three days ago I broke a wire leading from the outlet to the filter. The filter never stopped working, despite the fact that if water seeps through the wiring to the filter head, the filter will die. In general, I got it already in the burst form and only then I discovered it. But for 5 years this is a good time. In December, the filter knocks 6 years. I plan to simply cover this defect with aquarium silicone and let the filter continue to mix water. I think it will serve me more than one year, even repaired.
Filter certainly recommend. For a beginner, he is just perfect, and professionals use it in many of their aquariums. The filter is available in several models. Fan Mini Plus is the second FAN model. And there are 1,2,3 to a different displacement of the aquarium. I have almost all models and I can say that the suckers are the same for everyone. With the wire so far only with this filter is such a misfortune, but other filters are younger. There are also quite a few accessories for filters, ranging from flutes to UV sterilizers. You can choose accessories for every taste.
For suckers, of course, I’m shooting one star, but I’d need two, since it’s just spitting towards customers from Aquael. But it’s a pity to shoot two, because the filter itself really deserves respect for its uninterrupted work day and night for almost 6 years now! Excellent and high quality filter!
