Fish Tank Filter

The filter is necessary for absolutely any type of aquarium. The main purpose of the filter is the purification of water from the waste products of fish. In fact, the filtration process consists in the fact that water is being purified from various particles and suspensions. Due to this, water becomes suitable for fish life and plant growth.

There are three types of filtration: chemical, biological and mechanical. With the help of filters with sponges a mechanical reading of water in the aquarium is carried out. Filtration occurs due to settling of dirt particles on the pores of the sponge. The very sponges with which filters are equipped can be both small-pore and large-pore. The first are used for the so-called fine cleaning of water. Large pores are used to collect large debris (over 1.5 mm). They need to be washed, on average, once a month. During this time they manage to completely clog.

The filter for the aquarium, in which the sponge is only an integral part, is the most important equipment that influences the provision of normal conditions for the life of the fish. Moreover, the filter is used for all types of fish. The need to install a cleaning device with a sponge is also due to the fact that from a part of this device saturation of water with oxygen occurs. The filter in the aquarium should work without interruption. Therefore, it is better not to save on the purchase of this device, but to select the model that can perform its functions without creating additional noise.

Filter with a sponge belong to the internal type of device. That is, it is installed directly inside the aquarium. The principle of the sponge is very simple. Dirty water passes through the sponge, while the particles remain on its surface. Already purified water comes out of the sponge.

A finely porous filter sponge is used if it is necessary to remove small waste from the aquarium. This is due to the fact that this type of sponge has small pores, and, therefore, the filter capacity is significantly reduced. On average, one such sponge lasts no more than two weeks. Often on these sponges settle useful bacteria. Thus, the biological type of cleaning is performed in the aquarium.

In order for the filtration to take place as efficiently as possible, the sponge must be larger than 3 centimeters per cubic meter of water. The larger the sponge, the better the cleaning. However, the large size of the sponge carries an extra care for the filter.

It is worth noting that the most effective cleaning of the aquarium is carried out using several sponges at once. Contaminated sponges are not thrown away. They must be washed with water at room temperature. In this case, hot water is not used, as the beneficial bacteria on the sponge can die.
