Internal filters are designed to be installed inside the bowl of the aquarium. They are fixed with the help of suction cups, on brackets or in another way so that their working part is completely immersed in water. These devices are plastic cases with a pump and filter element placed in it. Water is sucked into the filter, passed through the cartridge, and returns to the aquarium again. In some models there is a function of aeration, when the purified water is simultaneously enriched with oxygen.
Advantages of internal filters
The advantages of these devices include:
- low noise level;
- ability to provide mechanical and biological filtration;
- water aeration function;
- high performance and good quality of water purification from impurities;
- big working resource.
Models are selected taking into account the volume of the aquarium so that during the day all the water passes through the filter several times. Properly selected device will contribute to the formation of biological equilibrium, in which the aquarium operates without outside interference.
The disadvantage of such models is that even with the most compact dimensions, they are still noticeable inside the tank and attract unnecessary attention. To avoid this, they are masked with plants or decorative elements. Otherwise, these devices do not cause trouble in the operation and perfectly perform their tasks.
Types of internal filters
The big competition among manufacturers of these devices makes them invent new and new designs with additional functions. To help sort through the diversity, we have prepared a brief overview of the main types of internal filters.
one. Single section. These are the simplest models, in the case of which there is only one compartment for filter elements. Most often in them sponges and cartridges with absorbent carbon are established. Despite its simplicity, these devices are quite efficient and provide a good level of water purification.
2 Multisection. These devices can be called one of the most advanced. They provide several sections at once, which can be independently filled with filter elements to choose from. It can be foam sponges, cartridges with activated carbon, ceramic rings. Such a combination of filter elements allows not only mechanical water purification, but also biological filtration.
3 Circulator pumps. These models are a submersible pump that supplies water from an aquarium to a filter element based on a foam sponge located outside the tank. The advantage of these products is a large filtration area and effective retention of impurities, and the disadvantage is not quite aesthetic appearance.
Maintenance of internal filters
Like any other filtration equipment, Fish Tank Filters require periodic maintenance. It consists in washing sponges and cartridges from dirt accumulated in them. If you ignore this rule, the filter that has developed its life will begin to throw pollution back into the water, causing its turbidity. Filter elements should be cleaned as they are contaminated, but no less than once a month.
