Greetings to all. Today I will talk about the filter-pump Barbus WP-310F. This filter is designed for internal installation in the aquarium and its main task is to maintain the purity of the water through the implementation of its mechanical filtration.
For the test and the subsequent maintenance of small containers, we purchased several copies of this filter. Naturally, I immediately liked it – it is an extremely low price for these products.
The filter is packed in a cardboard box with a nice design. It contains a variety of information about the product. The manufacturer promises us a capacity of 200 liters / hour, a power consumption of 3 watts and recommends installing this model in aquariums with a volume of 0 to 40 liters. Let’s see what is included.
Inside the box we will find the filter itself, packed in a plastic bag, instruction manual and a set of various nozzles. Let’s take a closer look at the product.
Appearance and design
The filter is small in size, which will be an undoubted advantage in aquariums of those volumes for which the manufacturer recommends it.
The product is made of plastic green, the protective glass is made transparent. At the bottom of the device there are slots for collecting dirty water. They are quite narrow, so there is no threat to be drawn inside even for the smallest inhabitants of your aquarium (for example, shrimps). On the front there is a sticker with the technical characteristics of the product, the name of the model and the manufacturer’s company.
The device is installed inside the aquarium with suction cups. There are three of them in this case: two on the pump and one on a protective glass. Their size is modest, but given the size and weight of the filter, problems with the installation and retention of the product should not be.
Disassembling the filter
To access the filter element, you need to detach the protective glass, which is held on the latches. You will periodically perform this operation if you need to clean the filter sponge. The fixation is still pretty reliable and one can hope that it will not cause problems in the future. The sponge itself, unfortunately, is large-pore, of small size and placed inside a protective glass.
On one of the copies, the fixation of the protective glass was extremely weak. When installed in an aquarium, he constantly flew. It was terribly annoying, although it did not affect the performance. The suction cups securely held the protective glass and pump together. On the other products, fixation was reliable, but this fact allows to judge about a certain variation in quality.
Now let’s look at the pump itself. It is also very compact, made in an airtight design, and is not afraid of complete immersion in water. In the upper part of it wound up the power cord with a length of about 1 meter. The protective cover is installed on the bottom side. As we can see, the pump completely lacks the ability to control the flow rate of water, which greatly limits the scope of application of this filter. To set the exact filtration rate, it is necessary to use additional tools or to refine the filter.
To flush the pump mechanism, it must be removed, remove the rotor and rinse all parts with water. Everything is going in the reverse order: first, the rotor is put on the axle, a protective cap is installed, then a filter sponge is inserted into the protective cup and it is installed on the pump.
Disassembly and assembly is very easy, literally in two movements and does not require the use of an additional tool. In addition, all fastenings and fixings are reliable, which undoubtedly deserves high praise.
On the 1st photo, flaws in the assembly of one of the samples are visible, in the form of a curved pump lid, which once again gives rise to the idea of a large variation in quality.
This filter can be used in several versions of the assembly, depending on the requirements placed on it:

Comes with a nozzle with air hose. The assembly looks like this … The filter is installed in the aquarium, and the tube is released outside. As a result, the air will be supplied under water, discharged along with the stream and go out in the form of bubbles.

For its organization in the kit comes a flute, which is installed on the filter using adapters. We place the filter in the aquarium so that the instrument case is completely under water and the flute protrudes above the surface. In this case, this is the only way to reduce the flow rate of the filter, since the regulator is not designed by design.

The negative point is the lack of a guide nozzle in the filter kit, with which it is possible to change the direction of flow in the right direction. This will not allow you to fine-tune the filtering. In addition, the nozzle for aeration does not have the ability to control the amount of air supply.
It is worth noting that the declared performance of 200 liters / hour can be trusted. Similar values were obtained by us during testing of all products. We carried out measurements on clean filters with complete sponges. It is clear that as they become polluted, productivity will decrease.
The noise level of the filter can not be called very quiet. In the circulator mode, the difference in the noise level before it is turned on and after is 5 dB (when operating in other modes, the noise level is even greater), therefore, it is not recommended to install this device in an aquarium located in the bedroom.
Experience of use
So, throughout the year, these filters worked in various modes in aquariums of different sizes. We can say in advance that all the devices have worked without complaints, none of them broke or burned. Let’s tell in more detail how the filter has worked in different volumes.

The filter turned out quite good on the totality of properties and prices. Controversial in the design is the use of small-pore sponge. This decision does not have the best effect on the quality of filtering, but is used by many manufacturers in low-end models of filters to achieve compact dimensions. Since the sponge here is rectangular in shape, nothing will prevent you in the future from replacing it with another, with a smaller structure. The truth in this case is to remember that the performance of the pump will decrease, and the cleaning of the filter element will need to be done more often.
Also worth paying attention to the noise performance of this device and carefully choose the installation location of your aquarium.
In general, the filter pump produces a good impression and is quite suitable for organizing the filtration of the initial level in small aquariums that are not overcrowded by the inhabitants.
